Annette Funicello had just turned 13 when Walt Disney, the studio's director of production, spotted her dance in a Fullerton California amateur Swan Lake. Funicello didn't audition to join the Mickey Mouse Club and joined after the beginning of season one of the show, much to the annoyance of the show's Mickey Mouse Club peers. Disney took the right choice since she swiftly became The Mickey Mouse Club's best performers, and she even had her own Adventures in Dairyland storyline. Funicello was forced to record records in order to reach her full potential as a teenager star. Annette didn't like her vocals, however Disney hired Tutti Kamerata who had a successful career in recording business. Funicello eventually became accustomed to recording, and she enjoyed her time in the studio with Camerata, one of the rare arrangers of their 40s who were aware of the basic principles of early rock. Annette Sings Anka was the third album, and probably the first to include the songs of rock stars in the set list of songs. Funicello was the lead in Beach Party, one of the five beach party movies which were hugely successful. Most often, the film starred Frankie Avalon, these films are made by AIP but the scripts for each film have been personally accepted and read by Walt Disney to maintain Annette's pure image.
